Black versus Red

I can imagine the kind of reaction Kyle MacDonald got when he told people that he wanted to trade his One Red Paperclip for a House over the course of a year.  Even I would have told him that it was a crazy idea!  But over the course of that year he turned that crazy idea into reality.

We all have them, those crazy ideas that hit you like a freight train at 2am.  99.9% of the time, the ideas are discarded. It is either too hard, too crazy, or both. I have a lot of ideas sitting on a shelf simply gathering idea-dust. 

I will be the first to admit that even I can’t explain why this idea is any different. But it is.  This idea, ‘Black vs Red’ is that magical .1% idea that formed, stuck, and is now in full production. It could very well be a ‘One red Paperclip’ idea. I can easily imagine getting to October 2018, and strolling into Vegas with a suitcase full of currency, and placing it all on the spin of a wheel.  I can imagine the media being there to cover the event. I can imagine casinos and airlines falling over themselves to sponsor the event.  In fact, I can imagine that the project has gone so viral and is so successful that I offer to fly one of the voters over to Vegas, and split the potential win.  

This BvR idea isn’t any crazier than the guy that wanted to trade a paperclip for a house.  Success relies on the power of the internet and on the willingness of people to socialize the project.  You know what they say, sharing is caring. And even if you can’t support the project through sponsorship of a product or through the purchase of a product, then at least spend 10 seconds to share the project on social media.  But if you can, buy a product and vote for either Black or Red.  Or sponsor a product, because if this project does go viral, it may be the wisest few dollars you have ever spent on advertising.
